Topoint has established an environmental policy emphasizing compliance with regulations, encouraging suppliers to adhere to standards, thorough planning and monitoring of pollution control, and diligent waste reduction and recycling. The policy also promotes employee health and well-being, continuous commitment to energy conservation, robust system controls, and high energy use efficiency.
Based on the ISO14001 Environmental Management System, Topoint regularly audits its internal environmental management system through the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) improvement cycle to ensure appropriateness and effectiveness of overall operations. Topoint Taiwan completed the ISO14001:2015 recertification in December 2017 and will complete its triennial system recertification in January 2024. The current certificate is valid until December 20, 2026. Topoint Shanghai obtained ISO14001 certification in 2010 and completed its triennial system recertification in July 2021.
Topoint Taiwan 's environmental management achievements for 2023 and its 2030 targets are as follows:
• In 2023, the intensity of energy indirect greenhouse gas emissions decreased by 9.9% compared to 2016 (the base year). The 2030 target is a 30% reduction compared to 2016.
• In 2023, the intensity of process water use decreased by 3.5% compared to 2016. The 2030 target is a 30% reduction compared to 2016.
• In 2023, energy intensity decreased by 5.2% compared to 2016. The 2030 target is a 25% reduction compared to 2016.
Topoint implemented an independent greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory check at the organization level following version 4.1 Standardized GHG Emissions Reporting every year.
In 2023, the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at Topoint Taiwan amounted to 7,566.509 metric tons of CO2 equivalent (CO2e). This total included Scope 1 emissions of 925.2905 metric tons of CO2e, Scope 2 emissions of 5,315.5407 metric tons of CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of 1,325.6782 metric tons of CO2e. Notably, Scope 2 emissions accounted for 70.25% of the total emissions, all of which were attributed to indirect emissions from purchased electricity for the facility.
Meanwhile, Topoint Shanghai's total greenhouse gas emissions for 2023 amounted to 9,967.673 metric tons of CO2e. This included Scope 1 emissions of 259.0562 metric tons of CO2e, Scope 2 emissions of 6,531.9721 metric tons of CO2e, and Scope 3 emissions of 3,176.6446 metric tons of CO2e. Notably, Scope 2 emissions accounted for 65.53% of the total emissions, all of which were attributed to purchased electricity for the facility.
In 2023, Topoint Taiwan’s intensity of energy was down 5.2% from that of 2016 (the base year); the intensity of indirect GHG emission was down 9.9% from that of the base year.
Tap water is the primary source of water used at Topoint, mainly for production processes, with the remaining used for domestic purposes. Topoint Taiwan’s intensity of process water was down 3.5% compared to the base year.
Topoint is well-aware of the scarcity of water and has implemented water conservation measures for both our production processes as well as domestic use. These measures include:
The types of waste generated by Topoint Taiwan's processes are mainly general industrial waste, with no hazardous waste produced. Adhering to the 4R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Replace), we recycle reusable resources and manage substances from the source to prohibit, replace, or reduce the use of environmentally impactful materials. For example, in 2023, the ratio of recycled and regenerated raw materials used reached 41.9%, a significant increase from 2022. We actively developed new compliant partners to recycle waste sandblasting material, aiming to convert it into raw materials for construction bricks, further promoting environmental and sustainable development goals. In 2023, the total weight of waste generated by Topoint Taiwan reached 89.2 metric tons, decreased by 12.0% compared to the base year. In 2024, we will continue to promote projects such as packaging material recycling and reduction of domestic waste to achieve waste reduction from the source.
For Topoint Shanghai, the total amount of hazardous waste in 2023 was 39 metric tons. The treatment process was effectively monitored and controlled, with contracts established with legal professional waste treatment companies to handle waste through incineration and physical treatment, with annual reporting to local environmental authorities. In 2023, there were no violations of environmental regulations at Topoint. Looking forward to 2024, Topoint aims to reduce the total waste by 17% compared to 2016.
In 2023, Topoint Taiwan and Topoint Shanghai had 31 and 45 customers, respectively, participating in Topoint's green recycling program. Topoint Taiwan recycled approximately 7.64 million units of reusable products and packaging materials from customers, accounting for about 89.1% of the shipments. Meanwhile, Topoint Shanghai recycled 7.35 million units of reusable products and packaging materials, accounting for about 95% of the shipments, showing a significant improvement compared to the previous year. Topoint will continue to promote and implement recycling actions internally and externally, aiming for a recycling rate of ≥93% in 2024.
